Ew. So... since I normally run at 5:30 am or around 9:00 pm, I didn't consider how hot it was going to be at 7:00 am in the desert. By the time the race started, it had rolled up to a lovely 92 degrees. I still felt good and ran most of the race, hills and all, without too many issues. And then comes... the visitor's center. Colossal Cave is a national park that is nestled in the beautiful Rincon Mountains. They thought it would be lovely to put the visitor's center at the top of one of the almost-a-mountain-but-we'll-call-it-a-hill. Which is wonderful for panaromic views and picture taking! Not so wonderful for including it in your 5K path. At one point, I discovered I could actually walk faster than I was running up the hill because I could lengthen my stride out. *sigh* Sooo... my time was a little depressing. I crossed the finish line at 37:36, coming in 82 out of 110.
But it's okay. I'll feel even better when next race, I blow that time out of the water. My goal for the 5K in September is to run it under 30 minutes. Here's crossing my fingers.
